Te Whakapapa

Hei te Hūrae 2026, ka kawe whakahī tō mātou Kura i te ingoa hou, arā, ko Te Wharekura o Te Rau Toroa, hei whakaahua i tō mātou hītori, me ngā wawata hoki mō anamata. Nā te mahi ngātahi me Te Rūnaka o Ōtākou i hua ake ai tēnei ingoa, hei whakarangatira i te taonga tuku iho a ngā kaumatua me ngā whānau o te hapori, ā, hei tohu anō mō te ara whakamua e kī ana i te tipu, i te kaha me ngā tūmanako anō hoki.

Pērā rawa i te toroa e topa haere ana i ngā pae tawhiti, ka poipoia ā mātou tauira kei raro i te maru o te kura kia pakari ai tō rātou tū, kātahi ka rere atu hei rangatira māia, e kawe ana i tō rātou reo, tō rātou ahurea me tō rātou rangatiratanga ki te ao whānui.

From July 2026, our kura proudly carries the name Te Wharekura o Te Rau Toroa, reflecting both our history and our aspirations for the future. Developed in partnership with Te Rūnaka o Ōtākou, this name honours the enduring legacy of our founders while embracing a future of growth, strength, and possibility.

Like the toroa soaring across vast horizons, our tauira are nurtured within the sanctuary of the kura before taking flight as confident leaders, carrying their language, culture, and rangatiratanga into the world.

I whakatūria Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ōtepoti i te tau 1994 e ngā kaumātua me ngā pakeke i mōhio ai i te tino wāwata e tū nei i tētahi Kura Kaupapa Māori hei ara mātauranga Māori mō ngā tamariki e puta ana i ngā kōhanga reo me ngā tamariki reo māori i te hapori.

Founded in 1994, Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ōtepoti was established by visionary kaumātua and whānau who recognised the urgent need for a Māori-medium pathway for tamariki graduating from kōhanga reo and māori speaking tamariki in the community.
