Karakia i te Ata
Ia ata, ka tīmata tō mātou kura i te karakia. Ehara i te karakia noa iho – engari he rerenga wairua, he whakatakoto i te wairua ki te wāhi tika, i mua i te ako, i mua i te mahi. Mā te karakia, ka tau te mauri, ka mārama te hinengaro, ka tū pakari te tamaiti i roto i tōna ao.
At our kura, the day begins with karakia – as ritual, as restoration and as relaxin for our day to begin. Karakia calms the mind, lifts the wairua, and brings focus. It prepares our tamariki to learn not just with their heads, but with their hearts.
Te Mauri o te Karakia
Ko te karakia he reo huna, he reo nō te wairua, he reo ka whakahokia mai ai te tamaiti ki tōna pūtaketanga. Kāore e taea te ako mā te hinengaro anake – me whai wāhi te wairua. Kei Te Aho Matua te whakatau – me tiaki, me poipoi te taha wairua o te tamaiti Māori.
Learning is not just intellectual — it is spiritual. Karakia opens the heart to understanding. It links us to our tīpuna, to the Atua, and to our deeper selves. It brings sacredness into the everyday.

He Tikanga e Ārahi ana i te Hinengaro
Mā te karakia, ka ākona e ngā tamariki ki te whakarongo, ki te noho marino, ki te whakaaro hohonu. He āhua ōkawa, engari he āhua māori anō hoki. Nā konei e taea ai te tamaiti te whakahaere i ōna kare ā-roto me ōna taumahatanga – me te rongo hoki i te āhuru o te kura.
In karakia, tamariki learn to listen deeply — to themselves and to the world. It is a tikanga that guides emotional intelligence, wellbeing, and peace of mind. In a world full of noise, karakia offers stillness.
Whakakapinga
Ko te karakia he pou o te kura kaupapa Māori. Ehara i te mea nā te whakapono anake, engari nā te aroha, te rangimārie, me te māramatanga.
Karakia is a pou – not just of belief. It is how we return to ourselves each day. Due to focus needed during this time, whānau are asked to wait outside the Wharenui if they arrive after karakia has started. Tamariki can enter the wharenui when the waiata starts.
